The Coastal Discovery Center is proudly run by The Main-A-Dieu Community Development Association, which was established in 2004.

The Coastal Discovery is open year-round, and offers many different services for everyone to enjoy!

They include a daily Drop-In Centre, library and  Museum. There is something of interest for everyone.

Unfortunately The Kids Zone and Give and Take Room are closed, but only for now. We look forward to when they can be opened again.

About Us

In 2000, the Main-à-Dieu Community Development Association launched a campaign for funding to convert the former Elementary School in the village to a community centre. After a gruelling four year struggle, federal and municipal support was forthcoming and the ‘Coastal Discovery Centre’ opened its doors in September 2004.

The Centre has evolved and changed over the past 14 years in response to funding challenges and changing community needs.

August 2020

The reopening of the Coastal Discovery Centre has proceeded smoothly. We have adapted our summer program to meet the health and safety requirements of Covid19 protocols. Thanks to community support we have been able to operate safely and efficiently. Our summer students have integrated well. Much thanks to board members who supervise daily.

Our Local Lobster Lunch on Thursdays has been well received. We will take a pause on Thursday August 6 due to our scheduled Lunch-a-Month on Friday, August 7. Thursday lunches will continue on August 13. Lunches continue to be take-away only.

Tea-by-the-Sea operates on Monday and Wednesdays with a limited seating capacity. Make your reservations early so as not to be disappointed.

The Picture This project was launched on July 21st. It has been made possible by the New Horizons for Seniors grant program. We offer a comfortable and enjoyable space to bring your old photos and sort through them. We look forward to seeing residents preserve their precious photos with our technology and the help of our digital literacy trainer.

Foot Care Clinicwill be on August 18th2020. As usual you will be contacted with your scheduled time. New appointments can be made by calling Debbie at 902-733-3235

The daily Drop-In centre and the Fishers Museum are open. However, the Give & Take Room and the Children’s Room will still remain closed.

The Centre will be closed on Monday, August 3 for the civic holiday. Any comments or suggestions to improve our service to the community are appreciated. Working together we make a difference.
