In 2000, the Main-à-Dieu Community Development Association launched a campaign for funding to convert the former Elementary School in the village to a community centre. After a gruelling four year struggle, federal and municipal support was forthcoming and the ‘Coastal Discovery Centre’ opened its doors in September 2004.
The Centre has evolved and changed over the past 14 years in response to funding challenges and changing community needs.

The reopening of the Coastal Discovery Centre has proceeded smoothly. We have adapted our summer program to meet the health and safety requirements of Covid19 protocols. Thanks to community support we have been able to operate safely and efficiently. Our summer students have integrated well. Much thanks to board members who supervise daily.
